Fares Abulebda (June 23, 2024):
I miss you, my mother. So much. It sounds so simple, but my family is all my life.
I felt so lucky to be able to evacuate you and Tariq to safety to Egypt.
Million thanks to my friends around the world, their friends and families and anyone who donated to my fundraiser. They saved you, my dear mother. I’m relieved you are away from bombing, lack of water and food…even though you are in a foreign country and nothing is for free for you. I would give my life for you, mother…but you left such a huge void.
My life is just a painful misery, mother. I am trying my best to replace your role and take care of what’s left of our family here in Gaza. We keep together in this living hell on Earth. We pray for our own lives. I’m sick worried all the time. About our family, about you and Tariq. Life has changed completely and I live on survival mode. My mind is busy non stop. Million questions I have…
What did we do to deserve the worst of this world?
You left me with hard task, mother. I will never have your strength and your calmness. I can barely take care of myself, let alone the rest of our family. Sometimes I see no way out.
You know me better than anyone in this world. You can read my eyes. Words are not needed, my soul is right there speaking to you.
What would you say to me right now, my beloved mother? I’m in desperate need of your love and consolation…
May Allah protect you, my dearest one
