Hi, everyone. I know it took so long for me to post about my and my younger brother, Landy’s first visit to Buffalo, NY–which was from June 30-July 6, 2024–but here it is.

The reason why we went to Buffalo is to celebrate Landy’s 31st birthday and also because we plan to move to Buffalo either this year or next year.

Our flight from Dulles to the connecting airport, Charlotte Douglas International (CLT), went well. However, there was a delay at Charlotte Douglas International due to the weather, which lasted many hours. When we finally flew into Buffalo, NY, it was past midnight on July 1, 2024, Landy’s birthday.

The next day, I took pictures of what I saw from my window at the Hilton Garden Inn Buffalo Downtown.

Since Landy was tired after what we’ve been through the night before, I had to go to the hotel’s restaurant to get us both some breakfast to take back to our room. For the rest of the week, however, both of us went down to the restaurant to eat breakfast.

For lunch, we went to Amira’s Kitchen, where I ordered mint lemonade; hummus and pita bread; and rotisserie chicken with garlic sauce and fries. The only thing Landy seemed to like was the pita bread, since he’s a picky eater. So I ended up bringing the rest of the food back to the hotel, so I could eat later.

While we were there, I told the restaurant owner, Amira, that both of us were visiting and that we plan to move to Buffalo. She told me that since business was slow where she was at (894 Tonawanda St.) that she was planning to move her restaurant to Cheektowaga, and that I could follow her business on Facebook, which I did.

For dinner, Landy and I as well as our older brother, Gordon and his friend, Jaclyn, went to Southern Tier Brewery where we mostly had wings and soft pretzels. I tried some drink called Mokah–which I thought would taste more like coffee and chocolate, hence the name–but the drink was too strong for my taste.

Afterwards, we walked along Canalside where we saw all sorts of navy ships as well as signs and plaques.

That morning, I wanted to buy Landy a Southern Tier Brewery shirt, but the restaurant doesn’t open until 3 PM on Mondays-Wednesdays as you can tell from the picture above. However, I did take plenty of pictures on our walk there. We even went to Tim Hortons to get drinks and doughnuts, and sat at a park near the hotel.

We decided to sit at the same nearby park we went to the day before.

Then we walked to the Hunt Gallery and went inside to look at some artwork.

For lunch, we went to Teton Kitchen Elmwood where Landy had noodles and I had sushi.

July 4, 2024: Landy’s Birthday Party

Even though Landy’s birthday is July 1st, we decided to have a birthday party at Aunt Janice’s house in Lockport, since most of the family was busy on Monday. We received some University of Buffalo shirts and some red, white and blue pinwheels as gifts.

On the last full day of our vacation, I finally bought Landy a Southern Tier Brewery shirt, so we could both have one. (Mine was mauve; Landy’s was green.)

Later, Gordon wanted to show us how to take the train. Below are pictures of one of the trains we went on as well as the different stops. When we got off the train, we went to a steak sandwich place and then walked around the area for a while. Then we went back on the train so that Landy and I could get off on Lafayette Square, which was where our hotel was located.

We were able to get home without any delays.

I hope you enjoyed this brief post about our trip.

If you’re planning on visiting Buffalo, then I suggest that you subscribe to their newsletter, Step Out Buffalo, where you can get ideas for things to do while you’re there. One of the Uber drivers mentioned it to me and it’s been helping me plan my next trip there in August.
